My Trip to the Bamboo School

Yesterday I went to the Bamboo School. It is near the Thailand and Myanmar (Burma) border. They study three languages; English, Thai, and Karen.

The buildings are made of bamboo from the jungle. One building I saw was made by three people who cut down 1,000 bamboo poles!

The boys and girls are learning about Jesus through their daily worship, play, and work. Some children lost their mommy or daddy in the war. Other kids are orphans.

Instead of having water from a faucet, the boys and girls had to carry their water up the hill from the village well.

My family & friends gave out Christmas presents to the students - toothbrushes and toothpaste, candy and chocolate milk. The children sang Christmas songs for us. The boys and girls said, "Thank you" to me when I have them these small gifts.

I felt happy when I gave the gifts to the boys and girls at this school.

Driving an Elephant

When you sit on top of an elephant, you can feel its muscles move. It feels like springs going up and down on your hips when the elephant walks. The skin felt like a dry rubber hose. The ears felt like a rubber tire.



To make the elephant move left, right, or straight, the driver would talk to it in Thai. The elephant would obey, but sometimes he wouldn’t.




Right when we were approaching the river, the elephant got off the path. He went to a tree, and rubbed against it, to scratch its itch. When the driver saw the elephant rubbing against the tree, he went over to the elephant and pushed him to the side. Then he started scratching where the elephant’s itch was!

This year right before Christmas, some friends and I went caroling. We were trying to show people about JESUS. Because, we did not see any decorations about Jesus as baby or any thing that had to do with JESUS, GOD or any thing like that! It was so sad! It was nice to see the happiness in the people faces when we were singing! People took pictures of us, and everything. I felt so embarrassed that we were singing some where when no one asked us to sing for them. But it turned out to be so fun!! 555! I love Thailand and the people in it.

How to Pick Up A Pinching Crab

We saw a crab crawling in the sand at the beach, and my Dad picked it up! It was hiding in the sand. We carefully washed off the sand on the crab, so we could see him better!

It was as big as my palm. The pinchers were white, and the legs were light greenish - yellow colored, with some red spots.How do you pick up a crab so you don’t get pinched? You pick it up from the back, and you have to be very careful so it doesn’t pinch you with its pinchers. But you can’t pick it up too hard so as to smash the crab.

My first monkey sighting

Yesterday I saw monkeys, for the first time here in Thailand.  The monkeys were so wild.  I saw a monkey chewing on a plastic water bottle that it stole from a little child.  The monkeys were running around the park.

We were told not to look the monkeys in the eyes, since they think that they you will want to fight them!  

You can not have any food in your hands, or else the monkey will come and "smile" and show you his sharp teeth.

I Miss My Pet Hamster

This is my first pet. He was a cute pet. He love to chew on his cage and his ball. And he liked to run outside, but I had to watch out for him, because the birds would try to eat him. But when we moved, we had to give him away. I am sad because I miss him. He has a nice home with Isabella now.

Laundry

In Thailand I help Mom with the laundry. I hang up the clothes outside so they can dry. Sometimes when it rains I help Mom hang up clothes inside to dry. I have fun helping Momma with the chores.

Roasted Eggs on a Stick

These are roasted eggs. The lady puts a stick through the egg, and then she roasts it over a fire in a can.


You take the shell off, and then you eat the scrambled eggs inside. I haven't tasted roasted eggs yet.

My own room

I now have my own room.  Back home in America, I had to share my room with my brother.  But here in Thailand, I have my own room.  

My room has no air conditioning.  It is so hot that I could roast a marshmellow!

My First Monkey Experience

The monkeys I saw yesterday were very aggressive. Someone gave me good advice not to look them straight in the eye. If you do stare at the monkeys, they will come and bite you, or climb on you. The monkeys think you want to fight if you stare at them in their eyes. Some people in our group had food and drinks taken from them by the monkeys. I don’t like monkeys out of their cages.

Helping with Voice of Prophecy Bible School

It was fun putting the Bible lessons together. These lessons I put together are for people who want to learn more about Jesus.

I put together more than 200 lessons together. People fill the lessons out, and then mail them back. I helped Mrs. Saipin, the Voice of Prophecy Bible School Director. It didn’t take a long time to put the lessons together. I still had time to play, and do my homework and chores.

What is it like to go to a new church plant?

Guest Interview with Julia, A Missionary KidToday I went to a new church plant. At church I saw about 20 people. I could not understand the language because it was in Thai. We sang a nice medley for the people, and then we went for a walk outside for about 15 minutes.

On the walk, we saw a bunch of men fishing by the side of the lake. The lake had lots of fish in it. The pastor was teaching the people about the wisdom of God.

On the walls of the church plant, there were posters of fruits, vegetables, animals, people and instruments. During the week, many people come to study English and learn about God. One poster on the wall says, "I Can Speak English Too!"

Sharing Jesus under a Tree

Today we held a Branch Sabbath School in a field under a tree. A lot of kids were playing. We learned about Jesus. We had fun together singing Jesus songs, and coloring. Chickens were running around, and the people who lived in this field had a run down house. The boys and girls of this neighborhood would not go to church, so we bring church to them. Its important to go do this outreach each Sabbath.

People I Miss

What is life like as a missionary?

One thing hard about being a missionary is saying good bye to people. When we moved to come to Thailand, I sold & gave many of my toys away.

I had to say goodbye to all my friends and family in America. I had to say goodbye to my friends at school and church. And even our neighbors!

We will be away from them for many years, and I am sad.


I still want to keep my friends back home, because they are special to me.

I think this is one reason why there aren’t more missionaries today. Are you ready to say goodbye, so others can know Jesus?

But we are missionaries to spread God’s Word with my friends here in Thailand.

Riding the Sky Train

I like to ride the Sky Train. We’re going to visit a fun place on the other side of the city. So we have to ride the Sky Train. The people call it BTS, which stands for Bangkok Transportation System. It is a fast, clean, and traffic free way to get around the city. It goes above the roads of Bangkok, and I like the view from the Sky Train.

You have to use a card to ride the Sky Train. It is fun. It goes fast so you have to hang on. I like to watch the city passing by when I ride the Sky Train. When we get off the BTS, we like to buy pineapple, fresh fruit & vegetable juices. Yum Yum!

Baiyoke Sky

On the top of this building there is an observation deck. From the top you can see the whole city. It is the tallest building in Thailand. The observation deck turns around and around.

It is a big job to share Jesus to this city.

A Brand New Church Plant

I went with Daddy and Pastor Rick, and Pastor Chanchai. We went to NIVA International School. It was the first Sabbath for the NIVA Church Plant. Daddy preached his sermon entitled “Running the Race.” We sang songs. It was fun to be at a new church!


I tasted pomelo fruit for the first time at potluck. It tastes like grapefruit. I liked it so much that I almost ate a whole one!

My First Bus Ride

Today I went shopping with my parents and I took the green bus.

It costs 6.5 baht to ride it.

It is easy to catch, since there are lots of them on the street all the time.

This bus does not have air conditioning.

It is really bumpy to ride and it's fun!

My First Day of School

On my first day of school in Thailand I was so sad. In the middle of the day, I cried because I didn’t know anyone. And I didn’t feel happy. I didn’t know what the kids were saying because they speak Thai, and I don’t understand Thai.

I made a friend, and I tried to make friends with my classmates. And one of them I really tried, and her name was Yzza. We wear uniforms at school. And my PE uniform is navy blue, red and white. On Fridays I wear my Adventurers uniform. It is white and navy blue, with an orange sash.

Flying to Thailand!

We had a fun time coming to Bangkok.

We went on two flights. The first one was 10 hours long! That is a long time to be in an airplane!


We had a stop in Tokyo, Japan where we explored the airport for three hours. The second flight was six hours long where we landed in Bangkok, Thailand.

My Birthday Away from Home

I celebrated my birthday with some new friends. They are missionaries too. Pastor Erika Puni showed us a coconut trick from the Island of Samoa. There is a hidden snake in the coconut! He was funny!

Going to Mission Institute

At Mission Institute, I went to school with other children who were funny. At my class, I had fun with my teachers. We learned about kindness, and coloring, and being a missionary for Jesus. We lived in the girl’s dorm at Andrews University.


I saw fire flies for the first time. I went to the zoo with my classmates on a field trip.There was a cute little baby I taught her to say, “Da Da!”. I ate lunch at the cafe. I had fun.
